An acclaimed multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, composer, producer and recording artist, Marshall created The Purple Piano — the world’s only one-man tribute to Prince. Inspired by Prince’s final Piano & A Microphone tour, the show showcases more than 35 Prince songs with Marshall’s voice and live instrumentation at its core — a one-man performance with no musical safety net.
The result is a showcase of extraordinary musicianship and showmanship, combining Marshall’s remarkable vocal and instrumental abilities with the audience connection he has honed over a lifetime of live performance. The Purple Piano was so enthusiastically received that it earned Marshall a Las Vegas residency, entertaining Prince fans from around the world.
Today, Marshall continues to tour both The Purple Piano and the internationally-celebrated Marshall Charloff & The Purple xPeRIeNCE. Among the highlights of his career, Marshall has fronted 25 of North America’s finest symphony orchestras in sold-out performances celebrating the music of Prince. Earlier in his career, Marshall developed his formidable piano performance, improvisation and audience-engagement skills while touring nationally with The FunKeys, an acclaimed dueling-piano show.
Marshall’s connection to the Minneapolis music legacy runs deep. He is featured on 94 East recordings that also feature Prince, performing keyboards and bass guitar, and later collaborated with Prince’s sister Sharon Nelson to co-write and record Colours.
Marshall was discovered at age 19 by producer Pepe Willie, who played a pivotal role in Prince’s earliest professional career and gave Prince some of his first professional recording opportunities. In 2011, Marshall co-founded The Purple xPeRIeNCE with Matt “Doctor” Fink of Prince & The Revolution, who toured and performed with Marshall for six years. Marshall’s connection to the Minneapolis music community and Prince’s musical circle is not simply part of the show — it is part of his own musical history.
But Marshall’s musical identity extends well beyond his interpretation of Prince. An accomplished recording artist in his own right, he has written, produced and recorded for the Commodores and Little Anthony & The Imperials, and his original music has earned recognition across multiple formats.
His album Unperfect was named among the Top 100 Albums of 2020 on the global smooth jazz charts, while HipNautic remained on smooth jazz charts for more than 25 weeks. His original single What If reached #10 on Billboard’s Hot Singles Sales Chart, and in 2025, Marshall reached #1 with his original single X-Centric, featuring legendary saxophonist Gerald Albright.

He played all of the hits, and so many of my faves I’ve never heard live before. Flew to Las Vegas to see this show and it was unbelievable. Can’t wait to go again!
Purple vibe is still alive
I was in person to witness the end of the rain, experiencing the last two concerts of Prince piano and microphone in Atlanta. I can say without a doubt that Marshal Charloff has captured the magic of that show with his Purple Piano performances. Marshal’s musicianship, charm and passion took me back to that night. Truly gives me the “feels”. Marshal shares personal stories and brings the purple vibe alive.
